A study issued by the National Bureau of Economic Research of the United States of America highlighted the strategic importance of the Suez Canal and its great impact on global trade and the maritime transport industry.
The study concluded that the Suez Canal is by far the world’s most significant maritime route due to its location at the heart of the world. Any disruption to transit through it shall definitely have an impact on its invaluable role in the welfare of the world.
It also drew conclusion from the grounding incident of the Panamanian containership EVER GIVEN last March which disrupted global supply chains demonstrating that “the most important node in the world trade network”.
